How to Lighten or Darken an Image


Click on the photo above to make it as big (High Quality) as possible, then right click the photo and choose Save Image As, save the photo to your desktop.

Go to Layer – New Adjustment Layer – Levels

A pop up window will come up and click OK

Adjust the slider bars on the Histogram until you get the look you want for the horse and the bottom of the boys body.

Open the layers palette from Window – Layers and choose the background layer

Using a refined selection (polygonal lasso tool) Select the top of the boys body down to the bottom of his shirt

Copy (Command – C on your keyboard) and Paste (Command- V on your keyboard ) your selection

Move the new layer (layer 1) to the top of the stack

Go to Image – Adjustments – Levels (Command L) and adjust the histogram until you get the look you want for the boys body.

Go to File Save As and save as Pony_ride_after.jpg, making sure your file format is set to .jpg and the quality is set to 12

Post both the before and after photo on your blog with a paragraph description.
