Puzzle Effect

Find or take a photo of your choice.

Open that photo in Adobe Photoshop

Download this template by clicking on the word “Puzzle

Open the Puzzle.tif File in Photoshop as well.

You should have Both files open in Photoshop, your photo and the Puzzle Template in separate tabs at the top.

Making sure you are looking at your photo Go To Select – All

Then Go to EDIT – COPY

Now Click on the Tab that is labeled Puzzle.tif

Go To Edit – Paste

It should look something like this:

Your photo might have been bigger or smaller depending on the resolution of the original photo.

Using “COMMAND T” or EDIT FREE TRANSFORM resize the photo layer to cover exactly over the yellow puzzle pieces.

Click Enter to accept the change.

With Layer 1 selected Go To the Fly out menu and Choose Create Clipping Mask

This will bring the puzzle edges through your photograph.

It should look something like this:

Click on the Shape 1 Layer to select it

Using your Magic Wand Screen Shot 2015-02-18 at 9.08.16 AMclick on one of the puzzle pieces to select it.

Click back on Layer 1 to select it

On your keyboard hold Command X or Go to EDIT – CUT

It should look like this:

Then on your keyboard hold Command V or Edit – Paste

This will paste a new layer with the puzzle piece on it by itself.

Then Click on Shape 1 layer to select it again.

Using your magic wand again choose the same puzzle piece that is now the color YELLOW.

Click DELETE on your keyboard. It should look like this

Right Click on Shape 1 Layer and choose COPY LAYER STYLE

Click on Layer 2 (Your puzzle piece) to select it

Right Click on Layer 2 and Choose PASTE Layer Style

Your Layer Palette will look something like this:

Make sure nothing is selected by using the short cut keys COMMAND D to deselect.

Using the Move Tool Screen Shot 2015-02-18 at 9.17.58 AM Move the puzzle piece around to the edge of the photo, you can use the COMMAND T (Free Transform) To rotate the puzzle piece looking something like this:

Repeat the last few steps to remove more puzzle pieces and move them around, the minimum is three puzzle pieces.

When finished Go to the Layer Palette Fly Out Menu and Choose Flatten Image

Go To File Save AS a .jpg file format and then File – Save For Web and post your finished work to your blog with a paragraph description.
